This course is designed for Australians who want to build a career in dog grooming, whether that means working in a salon, running a mobile grooming van, or adding grooming services to an existing pet care business. It also suits career changers with no grooming background, pet industry workers looking to specialise, and home groomers who are ready to go professional. If you are unsure where you want to land, the course includes a dedicated lesson on planning your starting point across employed, apprentice, and self-employed pathways.

No prior grooming experience is required. The course starts with the fundamentals, including canine anatomy, how dog coats grow and shed, and how to identify the seven coat types, before progressing through hands-on techniques. Even if you have never held a pair of grooming scissors, the lessons are structured to build your confidence and knowledge from the ground up.

The course is built around approximately 237 hours of study across 100 lessons and 10 modules, which allows you to develop thorough, applied knowledge at your own pace. If you have existing experience or want to move through the material more efficiently, a fast-track option is available that can be completed in around 20 hours. You can study from any device, so it is easy to fit around work, family, or other commitments.

Upon completion, you will receive an Advanced Certificate in Dog Grooming that is recognised by ICOES and carries CPD accreditation. This demonstrates to clients, employers, and industry peers that your training meets a credentialled standard. While this is a vocational education certificate rather than a government-accredited qualification, it provides a meaningful and verifiable credential for building a professional grooming career.

The course covers both in substantial detail. The final modules address everything you need to operate as a professional in Australia, including ABN registration, insurance, local council requirements, pricing your services, booking systems, superannuation obligations, and hiring employees under Fair Work. There are also dedicated lessons on Google Business Profiles, Instagram and Facebook marketing, building a referral system, and handling client complaints, so you finish with both grooming skills and a practical business foundation.

Free tutorials can demonstrate individual techniques, but they rarely provide the structured progression needed to become job-ready. This course moves systematically from breed coat identification and safe dog handling through to clipper work, scissor technique, hand stripping, skin health assessment, and full business setup, with each lesson building on the last. You also finish with a recognised credential and a capstone lesson that walks you through designing your own business model, which is something no collection of online videos provides.
