This course suits career changers who want to build counselling skills, community services and support workers looking to add formal counselling capability, and people already working in mental health, aged care, disability, or youth services who want dedicated training. It also works well for HR professionals, team leaders, volunteers on crisis lines, and anyone considering further study toward ACA or PACFA registration who wants a solid foundation first.

No prior counselling experience or formal qualifications are needed. The course starts from the ground up, covering what counselling is, how it differs from psychology and social work, and what to expect as a developing practitioner. It builds progressively from core micro-skills through to advanced topics like trauma-informed practice and crisis support.

The course covers 100 lessons across 10 modules, including core counselling skills like active listening, empathy, and reflective techniques, major counselling approaches including CBT, person-centred counselling, motivational interviewing, and narrative therapy, and applied topics like grief and bereavement, anxiety, depression, trauma, suicide risk awareness, and working with diverse populations. It also covers the Australian counselling landscape, ethics, record-keeping, and career pathways in settings like schools, employee assistance programs, and community organisations.

The course is structured for around 232 hours of study, which gives you time to work through the material properly and reflect on what you are learning. If you want to move faster, a fast-track path is available at around 20 hours, which focuses on the core content. Most students find somewhere between those two options suits their schedule.

You will receive an Advanced Certificate in Counselling issued by Modern Education Australia, along with a Certificate of Completion. The course is accredited by ICOES (International Council for Online Educational Standards), an independent international quality assurance body, and is CPD-eligible. This is not a nationally recognised qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework, and it is not issued by a Registered Training Organisation. It will not by itself meet the requirements for ACA or PACFA registration, though it can form a strong practical foundation before you pursue those pathways.
